I really liked the first Hairspray- I don’t think they should overdo it with a sequel… especially if it’s going to include that scene that Zac described. It would totally just be overkill. :/

personally, i absolutely loved Hairspray, but if this is the actual plot for the sequel, then i wouldn’t waste my money in order to go see it. when i first heard that there was going to be a sequel, i was excited. a sequel to one of your favorite movies, who wouldn’t be excited? but this plot just broke my double of excitement.

first of all, people hate Tracy for being fat? isn’t that the reason why they liked her in the first place? because she brought something new to the table? technically she was already famous, at least in Baltimore, and no one hated her for it, except for the ‘villains’. so why would they hate her now?

and Link experimenting with drugs? is the person who came up with this plot on drugs? (no offense even if the person is offended) why would he be experimenting with drugs? i mean, i know he isn’t going to always be a teen heartthrob. Zac wants to branch out and try new things, but why have his character Link do the drugs in the first place? and what’s with the pimples? seems kind of random.

but the part of what the producer explained that really confuses me is why is Edna losing weight, when one: that’s what people love about her character. she is overweight and learns to live with it, not caring what others thought. and two: she, in the first movie, already learned that her husband loves, adores, and somewhat cherishes her, fat and all. that confuses me.

im not trying to be rude, though it might seem that way. who knows the movie could be a good one, but from what i just read, it doesn’t seem like a sequel. it seems as if it’s a different movie, not one that will follow the first.

It’s sad this seems to be becoming reality.

He will probably have 17 Again & Me & Orson Wells come out by the time this happens, so doing this won’t completely typecast him as a musical lead, ruin him or stop people from taking him seriously as an actor just yet. But yeah to a certain extent there will be a bit more of typecasting for him to fight off, since there is also Footloose with his name on it. It’s also doing another sequel.

But judging by preliminary details, it sounds like HS2 will be horrible, it’s sequel of a remake & except for the nutcase diehards (who have far more problems than just gong crazy wanting this) the vast majority of the public thinks it is a bad idea and do not want it.

Most of the older cast refuses to be a part of this, so it gives Zac a bit of an out. He may think he owes director Adam, but Adam Shankman was one of the first & most vocal in telling Zac to not become the musical guy, so he’d understand. As for the younger crew of Brittany, Amanda, Elijah-I don’t follow their careers but they probably would do it… since they don’t seem to have anything lined up. But he (along with V) is already close friends with them in real life, it’s not like he needs this movie to have another fun experience, they are already in his life.

There are probably a few reasons this could be a necessary or good thing for him to do but mostly it’s a bad move or so I think. I’ll support him in the end but I hope he considers his choices wisely. There is also a matter of working again with a specific someone who has shown disrespect in many ways.

One thing that is true though-the studio etc. are going to fight for him. with no older audience appeal(for the general public I mean, not the crazies on the internet) they need Zac desperately to bring in the young people.

I am a crazy musical theatre kid and saw Hairspray the musical with the original broadway cast, and I am so angry that they are ruining it like this. this idea sounds completely idiotic and if it is made I will not see it.

I hate to say this but this plot is from the pen of John Waters (the writer and director of the original film) and this ain’t a joke. If I were to tell some of you younguns of the type of stuff this guy did in the seventies it would make your hair turn gray and fall out. But trust me as weird and off-kilter as this seems this is John Waters at his family friendliest.

Would I see it? No. As much as I like Zac I really think he needs to move away from musicals at least for a while. Not only that but this just doesn’t sound good. Some people have said that the “High School Musical” francise is this generation’s version of “Grease.” Well I hate to say it because I did enjoy “Hairspray’ but this sounds like it could be this generation’s version of “Grease 2″ and that is NOT a good thing.

Wow…clearly none of you have seen the original Hairspray or know John Waters style at all. I personally love both the original John Water’s version of this film and the newer, more timid and tame, musical version put out last year. The John Waters’ lover in me thinks is is HILARIOUS and awesome and soooo freakin rad! I would love to see this version made, but if anyone thinks it is going to happen you are the ones on drugs. New Line will never allow for it to go into production as John has written it. They will tone it down and make it more happy go lucky like the version produced and marketed last year. No way will they jepordize their family film image and lose any of their target audience. I can see them keeping certain ideas he has come up with in this script but what we read is not what we will see IF the sequel gets made. Which again in my honest opinion I am not all too sure I want to see just because I hold this film and it’s story very dear to my heart and I am super worried about the story being ruined or made a mockery.

I don’t think this will be a good idea at all for Zac for many reasons:

-A sequel to a remake is a no-no

-The plot is off-base with HS target audience

-6 musicals is a bit too much for someone trying to be taken seriously as an actor.

All round, it would be career suicide and a huge backward step in my opinion.

The sad thing is that this is one of the politics of hollywood. Being a heartthrob and being in demand is causing him a lot of trouble as many of us stated a while back.
Less popular actors with no mentors(like Lucas & Vanessa) rarely struggle with issues like this, they’re free to pick and choose even if it’s a small role or small studio.

The producer Adam Shankman developed 17 again for him, knowing it will be a success because of Zac and realizing that he’ll have Zac in his debt.
Adam knows it’ll be bad for Zac’s career to do HS2 but the truth is that he is not interested in Zac’s career but in making money and Zac would be a cash cow for him. As soon as Zac looses his credibility and is no longer able to make money, Adam would drop him like a hot potato. It’s a game of use him for as long as you gain from it.

Zac is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. He just has to be courageous and go for a route in which he’ll retain the most respect for himself. Keanu Reeves refused to do Speed 2 and Rachel Wiescz refused to do Mummy 3, they’re still acting. Adam Shankman does not control hollywood and though Zac might have a backlash if he refuses HS 2, his career wouldn’t tank, lots of indie producers would still give him a chance to prove himself but at least he’ll be respected by fans and the industry alike.

Ultimately, it’s his choice and the script is not final but I hope he has good advisers around him.
Zac has to learn that you can’t please everyone and that sometimes you have to become smaller to become better. Bigger is not always better and you can’t sell yourself out to hold on to a career you might end up loosing.

do i think zac will take this role? for the right VERY HIGH price, yes. anything that has been leaked from the plot is nothing that zac supports, so for him to forgo his morals for a role it’s going to take a lot to clear his concience. aaand if everyone but him signs on, which i also think is doubtful, i’m sure he’ll be peer pressured into joining.

thoughts on hairspray 2-the first released last year was my abs. favorite. i watched it daily after it came out on dvd. i also love the broadway play very much. the ONLY thing that would make me watch it would be zac’s appearance because either way, the plot is going to sucks. there is no where to go from the first movie, without going into a new era. no stone was left unturned. being a big fan of everything hairspray, i am very unhappy with the way this rumor is infolding.

and as for type casting zac, this porbably won’t be coming out for a few more years, so by then he’ll have two movies released, and begining production on footloose so he won’t have done musicals for a while. buuuut he does need to stay away from that genre of film.

Loved Hairspray and Zac and Nikki were fabulous. The people who say it was awful must have not read or heard about the great success it was at the box office. All the Zanessa fans hate Nikki and the fact that she and Zac are still friends is just a downer to them. Get over it….. they are actors playing a role so YES I would love to see them reprise their roles and see HS2. No. Hairspray is supposed to be a PG movie that is suited for young children and families to watch. I really don’t think that adding three pimples to a 21 year old sex symbol & makung him expirement with drugs; and making the plot revolve around the situations of a ‘fat’ issue in the family will work.
I might just for Zac, because he truly is gorgeous and is a great actor, but Nikki Blonsky irks me, and the plot seriously makes me laugh.

This movie line is so offbeat, with the pimples issue, drugs and dieting/slimming that it sounds bizarre. Certainly not recommended for young teens and tweenies.

I don’t know that Zac wouldn’t do a movie about drugs but I don’t think he would do one that made it seem funny or glamorized in any way. I think a subject of drug use and Zac would have to be a serious matter with a more adult story to it.

Some “Zanessa” fans may be against him doing HS2 because they are strictly against seeing him with Nikki but some Zac fans who are also fans of Z&V as a couple don’t want him doing this movie because they are afraid it is overkill on the musicals plain and simple. They also don’t like such an off-beat storyline. Some who are in the latter group used to even support Nikki but may not now just because she has proven how she never knows when to keep her mouth shut and respect her “good friend’s” privacy. She always is right ready to bring up his name and it looks like she does that—-whether it be true or not—just to gain attention. You don’t hear Amanda Bynes or Britney”(sp) Snow—or any other of his friends—talking about Zac any chance they get.
