Hoping for the role of a lifetime, Michael Copon opened up to PopStar.com and dished about becoming a part of the Twilight empire.
The 26-year-old former One Tree Hill bad boy cleared up all the rumors floating around the internet about filling Taylor Lautner’s shoes in the role of Jacob Black. He shared, “I think that it is pretty clear that there are huge rumors going around the Internet about me up for the role as Jacob Black. At this point, they are only rumors. There are a lot of opinions going around on the Internet about this role. It is definitely a role of a lifetime and I would love to have that chance.”

I liked the rumor about Taylor’s people meeting with Brad Pitt’s Benjamin Button people. I think if Taylor had good makeup people to make up buffer, and perhaps acting lessons, then he would BE Jacob. Physically though, I see him entirely as Jacob. When I saw his face, I was like, ‘Woah, that dude is totally Jacob.’ But, if they do replace Taylor, I don’t think it should be with this guy. He does not scream Jacob Black to me. He’s too pretty and not Native enough. I mean, if you’re going to have a Native American character, hire an effin Native American!

About the replace, I think it would be awesome, in book 2 Stephenie says Jacob looks like a 25 year old guy not a 16 yr old boy.

It seems wholly unfair to take this from Taylor. No offense to Michael, but is he really THAT much more qualified? He’s no leading man, no amazing actor, no big name that will bring in an audience. Taylor Lautner got the role, he deserves a chance to keep it. Hopefully he’s fighting for it and they are giving him that chance.

Yes, you are not Jacob Black yet, so let’s leave it that way. Only 2 actors I have in mind for the role, either Taylor Lautner or Steven Strait. Just because Michael and Ben Barnes share the same Manager doesn’t mean both have to get in Twilight Zone. Ben for me is fine as Aro, but Michael? Sorry..

Jacob in New Moon looks a lot older than he did in Twilight.
By the end of his transformation, even he says he’s closer to looking 25 than he is to 16… not to mention his height which makes him taller than Edward (supposedly).
Taylor just doesn’t have that height, nor the look of a 25 year old.
Why spend cash on special effects to make him look older, when you can get an actor that will look the part without it ?

I’ve not even seen Twilight yet but if they swap Taylor for anyone I’ll be annoyed. Taylor to me IS Jacob - and though he isn’t 6″7 he definitely is broad shouldered and has muscles. For a 16-year-old his body is gorgeous (and I’m 20!)

Ok, if anyone watched One Tree Hill when he was on it, seriously, not the best actor whatsoever. He’s not deep enough to pull off the angry Jacob we see right after his first change. He doesn’t have that raw husky voice Meyer talks about either. Sure he may be able top play a bad boy, but not for Jacob at all! Jacob’s character is too deep.
I think if anything should happen, they should keep Taylor as long as possible through New Moon, and then once all the changes start happening, bring in Steven Strait, IF they bring in anyone new!!! Strait should be the only option and looks exactly how the older/tormented/infatuated with Bella Jacob should look.

According to the book, Michael Copon would best fit the role of Jacob Black. After all, Jacob Black in the book was described as someone over grew to over 6′ tall and around 26/27 years old, almost over night. Michael fits that. I really like Taylor, but he still have much to grow into and not enough in time for the movie, and if they are going to cast someone into the role of Jacob Black, I rather it be Michael than anyone else because Michael does look like an older brother to Taylor.
