Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner
Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black!
Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.
On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.
On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

ok, copon is A JERK!!!!! he hasn’t even read the books!!! he has NO idea who jacob is!!! taylor has read the books & totally gets jacob. plus he’s BEAUTIFUL!!!! his smile is sunshine & w\that stare he gave to edward at the end of the movie–he can totally pull off the angrier jacob. copon looks like an old man–nasty. I WILL NOT BE SEEING NEW MOON IF THEY REPLACE TAYLOR LAUTNER!!!!!! i can’t support an industry that has no respect for its actors, its fans, & such an incredible book series.

conclusions:
1. Summit making sure Taylor has enough fanbase to carry the movie since he will get more screen time than Rob. This “he’s too short” and “he’s too baby-faced looking” business don’t make sense! let’s see.. Hagrid! any one? and madame maxime?? oh yeah! benjamin button? those can easily be resolved!
2. Michael copon: willing victim. he’s in a win-win situation. he may or may not get the part BUT all these publicities? good and bad, they are still publicities. i’ve never heard of his name my entire life! but look at him now? he’s a willing victim just riding the wagon of fame. (seriously, he’s not famous). so if he’ll get the part, it’ll just be an icing on the cake for him.
3. Writers: some were more than happy to make snide comments to get people visit their pages and get more hits.
if he’d have read new moon instead of perusing the cliff notes, he’d know he’s completely wrong for jacob despite his girth. jacob’s the best friend. he’s innocent. he may look like he’s 25 but he isn’t, and this guy thinking he has it in the bag makes me think he’d have a really tough time being as sweet and perceptive as the real jacob should be. and honestly despite copon’s height, i really can’t see much difference between the two of their builds in pictures. if they put lautner on a box he’d be just as tall and no one would miss the possibility of this guy. if they pick coupon though, we will miss the truest portrayal of jacob’s heart.

he might not be as ‘muscly’ as the douche but he is a great actor and he will pull it off 100 percent.

200 lbs of muscle? HAHA! Wow, this Michael Copon guy is conceited. I’ve never even heard of him before, but he sounds like a jerk. He also doesn’t have his facts straight. Taylor is not 5′6″, he’s about 5′10″ and close to 150 lbs. On top of that, he’s ripped, and gained 20 lbs. of muscle in the past few months. By the time New Moon starts filming, he’s going to be 170 lbs. of lean muscle. Copon on the other hand, is not nearly as ripped as Taylor. Taylor is the best pick for Jacob bar none. They better not get rid of him.
I’ve wanted Michael Copon to be Jacob since Day 1. I will be elated if he replaces Taylor.

Michael seems extremelly cocky. Taylor is actually humble and genuine.
They might as well call him Michael “Coupon.” Summit mainly wants to replace Taylor Lautner because it will save them some cash on editing. I think it’s wrong to replace him. They need to learn some camera angles and wardrobe techiniques for the height. He can get a lot more muscular on his own, he’s already put on 20 pounds of muscle since Twilight stopped filming, and digital editing and GOOD make-up can make him look even more mature. I think he’s excellent for the part of Jacob, plus he’s actually part Native American.
