Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner
Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black!
Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.
On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.
On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

Immature waste of time. I’m a fan of Twilight, books and movie, but if they cast him (even as an extra) I’m boycotting the new flick. The guy’s a douche and he so totally dissed Taylor. That was WRONG.
Plus, he’s a crappy actor. Seen him on One Tree Hill before, he ruined the show for me.

I really hope Taylor can pull it off because he is the jacob black….but i think Micheal Copon can pull it off as well since he is taller and weigha more…rmr jacob is supposed to be “bigger” right? Dont get me wrong or anything…but it seems like taylor will pull it off tho…

What a jerk! If he does end up playing Jacob, I am going to be very disappointed and I will not go see the movie. Poor Taylor has been doing every thing he possibly can to keep his role as Jacob. Working out every day since the end of filming Twilight, gaining 19 pounds…. He is so dedicated to this! It would break my heart if he ended doing all that work for nothing. Taylor is absolutely PERFECT as Jacob. It’s like he was born to play this part!
Chris Weitz said that he promised to “remain responsive to our hopes and fears.” Well, you know what? We DO have a fear. Our fear is that you are going to replace the best person who could ever play Jacob with some jerk who “kinda knows what happens”. 90% of us Twilighters want Jacob. So, in order to keep your promise to “respond to our hopes and fears”, JUST KEEP TAYLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a massive JERK. He’s obnoxious and he’s been pissing off Twilight fans from day one. I tried liking this guy and finding the positive side of him without giving up on Taylor as Jacob, but this Copon is making it VERY difficult for Twilighters to like him. Taylor is eternally optimistic and has taken this so-called rivalry with class, charisma, and MATURITY (something Copon desperately lacks despite being 10 years older than Taylor).
I used to think that Copon can maybe take on the role of Paul, but if Summit or Chris Weitz puts this prima donna on the set, they will have serious issues. He doesn’t deserve a part in this franchise. If he’s hired, his already GIANT EGO will be so far bloated that that’s ALL we’ll see on the screen.
Taylor is much more charismatic and has fan appeal. Hell, even strong anti-Jacob Twilighters actually started giving Jacob a chance BECAUSE of how Taylor portrayed Jacob in the movies (which I thought was SPOT ON). Despite the fact that Taylor was only in 4 short scenes, he won the hearts of many Team Edwards - that’s a serious accomplishment. Copon, on the other hand, has managed to get people to hate him even before he’s cast. That’s an incredible accomplishment too, but nothing to brag about. If Summit hires him, it will be financial suicide. Those of us who support Taylor will definitely not be watching the movie over 5 times like we did for “Twilight”.
Copon seems to think he’s all that because he “carried” the entire Scorpion King 2 movie. That’s nothing to brag about, considering that movie was considered one of the worst in 2008. I couldn’t sit through 10 minutes of it because it was so bad! He really shouldn’t brag about that movie (in fact, he should try to sweep it under a rug and never bring it up again). He doesn’t have the acting ability to carry Jacob Black like Taylor does.
I hope Summit reads our opinions because if they hire Copon as Jacob, New Moon won’t do as well as Twilight did.

CLIFF NOTES?! WTF! The guy obviously does not care enough to read the freakin books! The first time I saw him I thought he looked like this smug ass that might have a fixation towards men (not that there’s anything wrong with that except the little problem that I don’t want the actor who plays jacob to look gay) I am really offended that they even thought of choosing this guy. He can’t act for one thing, he’s not hot, and doesn’t even know who Jacob is and apparently doesn’t want to take the time to find out.
I totaly agree with that mariia person who said michael copon is concieted and that she will laugh when he doesn’t get the part.

No worries…if he doesn’t have the motivation to read the second book (beyond cliff’s notes), which is the story he’s hoping to inject himself into, then he really has no concept of what is being asked of him. In side by side photos of Taylor Lautner and Michael Copon, they do have a similar look, but Copon looks a decade older than Taylor…oh wait, he is. I’ll be very disappointed if Taylor is removed from the Jacob Black role. I’m already invested in him, and can’t wait to see how he evolves.

Even If Michael matches in physique, they have to give light to the fact that he is a terrible actor. I mean honestly he has been around for awhile and arguably his best work is One Tree Hill. I know Taylor isn’t Oscar worthy, but he has already produced an acceptable portrayal of Jacob just by been a young boy, something I believe that 26 year old Copon cannot give.
