Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner
Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black!
Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.
On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.
On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

Omg. I’m not liking this at ALL. My parents are totally staring at me weirdly as I march around this hating muttering ‘I hate this, I wont let this happen. No ones replacing Jacob (Taylor)’.
Who is this Michael dude anyway? He looks way to old, too pale, and deffinatly nothing like I imagined Jacob too look like. Ewww. That actor is SOO big headed too! Anyway he has 5 films in post production for next year, theres no way he’ll have enough time to act as Jacob too, right?

we shouldnt judge Michael on being jacob black…coz we havent even seen him act as jacob. Just give him a chance to prove himself. i mean when taylor got the part, a lot of people didnt think he was gona live up to the character, but now he gained a lot of fans because people gave him a chance to prove himself.
its not like im team michael or team taylor…whoever is best for the part…should get the job and from the outcome we’ll see soon hopefully. but good luck to the both of them!
michael has a good point tho…which him being tall already and all bulked up…ya know? but whatever. hope they figure it out soon…coz were all dying to know!

Dear Michael, maybe you have the advantage of body mass (questionable). Taylor has got the advantage of heart+talent mass instead, which is quite preferable IMHO. Ah, last Taylor’s advantage: the 41 000 Twilighters choosing him over you in the last MTV poll.

Really??? You know Jacob and can bring more to the chacter but you have not read the books only the first which Jacob is hardly in??? What is this guy playing at? I understand the thought about size and what not but really Taylor has already made his mark as Jacob. I am not a Devout Taylor fan but if it is between him and this guy Taylor wins just from the mear fact that he is not a jerk about it!

Oh, seriously, c’mon. I personally haven’t seen the movie-yet! But from what I’ve heard, Taylor as Jacob was the best actor of the film. [Or one of the bests?]
Michael Copon, yeah he’s cute. He was in the movie Bring it On 4 with Cassie Scerbo & Ashley Benson. That’s what I remember him from mostly. And yup, he’s an okay actor. But, seriously! He is so NOT Jacob Black!
Taylor has the cute look [he's gorgeous!], the younger look! Michael looks way too old. Plus, what about if/when they decide to do the other books into movies? Michael will be too old. What, are you going to give the part back to Taylor then? Psh, I think no!
Also, Michael is WAY too rude in this interview. He sounds incredibly conceited, and I don’t think I”m the only one who thinks that. He sounds like he’s degrading Taylor as an actor and a person. He sounds like he’s positive he has the part. Excuse me for saying this, but I really hope Taylor comes back as Jacob.

That is so stupid to say. Michael Copon doesn’t look sixteen or even eighteen for that matter. Why don’t people understand that technology will make Taylor look older besides in Twilight he even looked older with the long hair.
I hope Michael doesn’t get the part, besides isn’t Taylor still doing the role? Didn’t he comfirm it himself?
