Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner
Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black!
Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.
On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.
On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

cocky “actor” who hasn’t even read the book wants the part, like he has anything better to do…. i don’t even know anything that he is in, but he def has time to do these stu[pid interviews!
People do realise you dont get the part in a movie just cause ur excited for it right…….honestly who cares if they chose to go for michael good luck to him, and jacob is suppoosed to look like he is 25 after he changes so really michael has that going for him!
I think they will recast who is playing jacob and good luck to them!! Taylor is a big annoying anyway he is the one that announced he wanted to be in the next 2, not summit, so he will look like a fool when/if he is replaced!
Jacob will suck anyway with whoever plays him so it dont make that much difference!

Wow What an arrogant actor. I mean did he really say those things? That is exactly the type of stupidity that makes him the last person to play Jacob Black. Taylor’s portrayal of the warm, innocent Jacob in Twilight was perfect. In New Moon he will still be perfect. They can get jiggy and shoot him from angles that make him taller as well. It was no mistake they chose him to begin with - he is great and totally cute and makes a perfect Jacob.

Just because you say you’re have 60 pound on Taylor doesn’t mean you’re right for the part. I’ve seen Michael’s other movies and he can’t act to save his life. And for the record Taylor is 5′9 ish.
I think Taylor is perfect for the role, he’s obviosuly a lot more dedicated than Micheal. Taylor gained what 19 pounds and this guy hasn’t even read New Moon. Cliff notes? are you serious. If he was really serious about this role he would make time.
I have a huge feeling this guy only wants to be a part of this movie because Twilight was a huge success.

Hey,
I’m not a huge fan of Twilight, but one thing I do know is that TAYLOR LAUTER is awesome. So in my mind, no matter the hight, TAYLOR LAUTER is the ONE and only person to play the part!
I just can’t believe they have Cliffs Notes for the Twilight books. Why? Are the books really that hard to read?
