Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner
Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black!
Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.
On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.
On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

WOW! Talk about cocky! Someone needs to tell him that if he wants the Jacob role, he needs to change that attitude, but quick! No twilight fan is gonna put up with that crap. I am a huge Twilight fan, and understand that Jacob gets huge and older looking in New Moon, but I’m fine with Taylor being Jacob. NO ONE in Twilight has had that cocky attitude, ugh! He does not deserve to be Jacob with an attitude like that. Rob Pattinson is a million times hotter than that dude and he never shows it.

Well you haave Taylor playing Jacub in the begining of the movie and let the other actor take his place when Jacub starts to Change! So you have both actores in the movie and the Fans happy!

The role was given to Taylor in the first place and thats who we want to see regardless of his height. its not like everyone has the same picture in their minds of what the characters look like. IMHO, this michael guy is riding the popularity wave! good or bad publicity, is still a publicity. i’ve never heard of his name in my entire life before the whole jacob replacement thingy blown up, i’m sure some of you too. but look at him now? huh! i would have to say, kudos to michael’s staff. but i’m still team taylor. if he won’t get the part, at least get some one who can actually act OR steven strait! can some one 911 steven strait about this jacob business???
um, wow…so wat if he weighs more than Taylor….being 200lbs doesn’t mean most of its muscles like Taylor’s and Taylor is taller than 5′6” he’s grown a lot since they stopped filming Twilight you can tell in pictures. Taylor looks a lot different since the start of Twilight. jeez I am really starting to loose all respect for this Michael Copon. And that’s pretty pathetic that he “cliff noted” the second and third book like if he wants the role so bad he should have at least read the second one..that is what New Moon is about….i will be soooo mad if Taylor doesn’t get the part!!

i think summit is keeping this a controversy. more publicity for the film. i also think they’re gonna keep taylor as jacob because that’s what the fans want. you kids dont worry they just want to rile you guys up and in the end they’ll stick with taylor. Just you watch!

Here’s what bothers me. Their reasons for wanting to replace him are illogical.
Bulk? REALLY. He’s put on 19 pounds! That’s amazing!
And is still promising 10 more?! THAT’S INSANE. At least Taylor’s not being arrogant about anything and he’s read the books. WHY would you admit to not reading the books?! What an idiot!!
Height?
Tom Cruise looks like a normal sized man in all of his movies!!!!
Friggin’ Nikki Reed is shorter than Ashley Greene, but they managed to make Rosalie look taller than Alice! Nikki Reed basically only got the role because Catherine really likes her, not that I don’t love her, but…if she can stay on TAYLOR DEFINITELY SHOULD.
PLUS, if Warner Brothers can make Robbie Coltrane as big as a house for Harry Potter and have it look realistic, they definitely can do it for Jacob who doesn’t need as severe of a height change. Summit is just lazy.
This is crap and I feel like Summit will lose a lot of money if they switch Jacobs. He is one of the most enthusiastic actors about the film and I think it would suffer if he was gone. Not many fans LIKED New Moon, it’s stupid to give us another reason to dislike it.
