Miley Cyrus Apologizes for ‘Goofy’ Pictures
Miley Cyrus hung out with her friends recently and took a picture that some people find to be offensive. Still in Nashville, the 16-year-old Disney starlet responded by posting this entry on MileyWorld:
“I can’t believe all of the silly STUFF that has been put out in the press this week! It really makes me sad that people want to tear other people down just for the sake of magazine sells and hits on websites! Unfortunately, it seems like BAD is what sells!
“I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context! In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy? It seems someone is trying to make something out of nothing to me. If that would of been anyone else, it would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to make me out as the new ‘BAD GIRL’! I feel like now that Britney [Spears] is back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me! Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what is on my heart. You guys know me and have been by my side every step of the way!
“You guys know my heart and know the most important things to me are my friends, family, fans, and GOD! In NO WAY do I want to disappoint any of you! But, when I have made mistakes in the past, I feel like I’ve owned up to them and apologized. Anyway, I really wish everyone would stop focusing on my personal life and get back to focusing on what I love! Music and Acting! Hopefully, I will be touring again this fall! what she did was not racist… its just what she said a goofy face… and i cant believe what ppl would do to get a few minutes of fame (aka that asian group)
how is what she did racist? honestly i am asian and do i find it offensive? NO!! is it racist? NO!! i dont understand why ppl cant just stop judging other ppl for being a kid.
remember shes still just 16 and i actually dont find that all her other “scandals” were actually scandals. ppl are just judging her so harshly for things that are so stupid. is taking pictures with clothes on but not covering your back that bad? hmm last time i checked.. thats the same thing as wearing a bikini… or going swimming.. whats wrong with that?

Am I the only one who is annoyed with the “she’s 16 so she’ll act like that” excuse. Guess what, not every 16 year old makes poor decisions and acts dumb. And for those of you saying it isn’t offensive, OBVIOUSLY there are people out there who find it offensive, so you’re just wrong. She may not have intentionally made fun of Asians, but obviously some took it that way, and that is something she has to keep in mind. THINK before you act. Just because you’re 16 doesn’t mean you can’t think about what you’re doing and how it may hurt some other people. And her boyfriend is 20…are we going to use the same argument that he is just so young and is just having fun. I love Miley’s music, but I think her “well I didn’t know” act is just getting old….THINK about your actions. And if they were just making goofy faces then why was everyone making the same eyes in the photo.
My friend is Asian and claims that she is aware that she is racist against her own culture…and she takes those types of pictures all the time. So at least she can own up to it.
Miley, “Thanks” for your sorry excuse for an apology. People may feel sorry for you b/c your every move is followed. Well, you reap what you sow. If you’re on TV everyday and want to market youself to sell CDs, then you have to deal w/ it. You can’t have it both ways. I’m sorry that you think it’s just you being “goofy”. The reason why people are getting upset is because the picture did come off as really racist and now she’s making excuses - NOT APOLOGIZING. Like “you guys took it wrong, I was just being funny.” which is not the same as sending a message that it’s NOT okay to be racist or saying apologizing for people taking the picture as racist.
They were mocking the Asian guy with them.. pix’s don’t lie. She needs to go to public school for a few years and see what it is like to grow up socially ready for life.

Growing up as Asian American, I’ve experienced a few racial slurs and offensive gestures directed towards me. As I’ve gotten older and moved to a more diverse college, the taunts have gotten fewer. But I do recall in elementary school being made fun of because of the shape of my eyes. Whether or not I personally find the pictures offensive is irrelevant. The fact is that Miley was making a RACIST gesture. It doesn’t matter that she meant it in a humorous way or if the Asian guy in the picture took offense. Some Asian Americans may be offended by the pictures and others may not. The fact is that she made a racist gesture and she should acknowledge that. Not brush it aside as making a “goofy face.”
If she wasn’t famous and a supposed “role model” for young girls, this issue wouldn’t have gotten the press that it did. But Miley is famous and young girls do look up to her. She should at least acknowledge that she made a racist gesture and not pretend that she didn’t know what she was doing. It really irks me that she just brushed off her racist gesture as a goofy face. She’s not that ignorant. Yes, she might have meant the face in a humorous way, but she still made a racist gesture and should acknowledge that.
You cant assume and call this a RACIST gesture. I dont care who you are, or what your personal experience has been. We dont know what the context was. We can see it was a party of friends posing for a pic. Miley has said she was not Making fun of any ethnicity.
I know we live in a PC world, but we all like to be a little crude and rude in our private and personal communications. We dont know what was going on here.
And, dont disparage Home Schooling. Everyone else in that group probably when to public or private schooling.

Why should I not call that a racist gesture? I think a lot of people on here need to figure out what racist remarks and gestures are. Yes, there are plenty of people out there that do things like that with no bad intentions. But..you learn. She could have at least said “I’m sorry if that offended people, I did not think of it as racist. It was just my friends messing around. I am very sorry if I did offend people and I will try not to do it again.” But just trying to pass it off as if nobody knows what they’re talking about and she’s the one in the right…we’ll that is a bit ethnocentric. But wait, this is America….we like to think what we do doesn’t effect anyone else, and if it does then that isn’t our problem.

This isn’t the first time Miley has done something stupid. It’s not the second time, the thrid, or even the fourth. The problem with Miley is that she keeps ******** up, making excuses, saying she’ll never do it again, and then turning around and doing something else stupid months later. And each time people shrug it off as her just being a teenager, having fun, that the things she does are things “everyone does” Why is it that people will make excuses for her over and over again, but are never willing to forgive a person for doing one stupid thing?
The Vanity Fair photoshoot, the pictures she took laying across a boys lap with him pulling up her shirt, or the one of her exposing her green bra, or showering in a white t-shirt, or all the other pictures she’s taken, people never mention those things. They never wave the mistakes she’s made in her face to bring her down. She gets away with everything, just like she’ll get away with this. By this time next week no one will even remember this little incident, and we’ll all go back to pretending that Miley is a good role model for kids.
