okaay i read the interview and is it just me or did the interviewer make it sound like he is a bit of an ass ?

cuz he swears loads, and seems to be really sorta harsh on everything hesays, not like how yu have ever seen himact before. it just doesnt seem too be like himm . i dnooo. like he seems a lot more open minded in other interviews and thaa thing bout vanessa n thaa. they deliberatley seem to try n make it sound like he is being horrible bout her or something.
i think they might have put a differnt light on what he is sayin and acting to make it more grown up but it didnt work.

For those of you who are offended by the cursing in the article, grow up! GQ is an adult publication, not a magazine that caters to a young audience like Bop. He’s 21. A lot of adults curse. Even the interviewer uses curse words in the non-quoted parts of the article. Zac was probably told by the interviewer to feel comfortable in talking the way he wants, instead of in the sanitized manner that is required for other media outlets such as television. That doesn’t make him any less of a gentleman or good person. Consider the context of where this article is appearing (an adult men’s magazine) before you make any judgments.

I hate his hair like that! It looks like wannabe Robert Pattinson. And I didnt like Rob’s hair like that either.

I have to admit I am a little dissapointed in this interview and for you ppl that say “grow up” because of the cussing need to get the big picture don’t get me wrong i’m 12 and have cussed many times in my life but even though this is an “adult” magazine he still needs to keep his younger fans in the back of his head because alot of adults that will read this have young kids that are fans of him and i’m sure that they woun’t appriciate it! You all have a point. ak, it is an adult male magazine but I have read their articles before and they are always trying to make everything sound smart-assed. They always try to put an “edge” on things—another one of those things you see in publications to get something started. I don’t for a minute believe that a swear word never crosses this boy’s lips—not living in Hollywood and working with the people he does all the time. Nor do I believe the boy never got drunk before the age of 21 so don’t tell me I am naive. He even inferred the same thing in his Rolling Stone interview about doing things anybody else his age would be doing but he did it behind closed doors with friends. However, there are just things I read in this interview that sounds very much like what I have read in other interviews with other celebrities in this magazine over the years. It definitely has a certain “slant” to it.

Just like making it sound like he is hunting for some girl on the street. Most men and WOMEN check out other men. What do you think women do when they watch movies with the current hunk and swoon all over the guy? That is checking them out. But it doesn’t mean you are going to leave the one you love for something like that. If there is a good looking guy that starts in your office tomorrow, do you think the women there aren’t going to notice? Well, believe me, men have been doing that kind of thing a lot longer than women have. It doesn’t mean they are on the hunt.

Not getting married until 40 if ever but then says, well, maybe 30. Isn’t that a little ambiguous? Why make it seem like you are not the least bit interested in marriage if you then drop the age 10 years or why even give an age? It is so obviously more like “IF I was going to get married TOMORROW YOU GUYS certainly would be the LAST people I would tell”. Why wouldn’t he make it sound like “I’m not ready for anything like that for a VERY LONG TIME”. It’s to get you people from making predictions and getting into his private business. Maybe he thinks if he makes it sound far off those people will quit making statements that they are getting married every other week and quit asking them if or when they are getting married.

Just like when Vanessa said she didn’t even like kids last year. Well, heck, they had the girl pregnant every other week. I believe she said that in hopes that people would stop that madness thinking “well, she doesn’t like kids and she said it so it isn’t very likely she is going to get pregnant”. However, these people who print this stuff most of the time are not interested in printing the true facts. They want to sell their magazine so they make it more scandalous and sensational.
THAT is why we see a whole different Zac Efron on talk shows. There are some things you can’t hide. AND in this article they didn’t even venture forth to claim he is embarrassed about doing HSM.

Basically it is an adult male magazine and some believe you have to cuss to be an adult…too bad. Sometimes it only makes you see mindless like you do not have enough brain power to come up with an intelligent word. It is the magazine that is trying too hard to come across as something “edgy” and adult.

In reference to GQ(or any magazine) having a slant, this interview reminds me of the Justin Timberlake interview GQ did awhile ago Justin came off like an a-hole too in an attempt to appear “edgy”.
I think it just the way theGQ magazine tries to remain relevant to young man.

As Zac said in the Today Show interview this morning, he’s 21 and growing up. It’s a fact of life. He can’t always think of the tween/young audience in doing interviews for adult-oriented publications or in the projects he chooses to work on if he wants to last long in the entertainment industry. That doesn’t mean he’s ungrateful for the success that HSM gave him. If you truly want him to be successful in this cut-throat business, you have to be willing to see him as someone who is growing up.

Plus, he has to seem edgy for a magazine like GQ. Otherwise, the magazine wouldn’t even think of putting him on the cover. GQ doesn’t do squeeky clean.

oh and the interviewers people over exaderate soo dont bealive all the cussing zac efron said, cause i know for sure he didnt, cause it is an interview why would h say that wen he know people are gonna read this!!!!!!!!

Reading this interview I wanted to hug him and slap him at the same time. He’s trying way too hard to appeal to men and sound the way he thinks they want him to sound. I felt the same way with the USA weekend interview when the interviewer had to point out that Zac blurted out ‘what do you want me to say, I’m trying to figure out what you want me to say.’

I thought the interviewer was spot on when he suggested that Zac was leaving the Disney bubble only to create a self-made bubble where he refuses to be himself but keeps trying to figure out what people want him to say and be. He then proceeds to work hard at incarnating those but people always see through those as his image is never consistent from interview to interview depending on the target audience.

He is such a hard worker but as the interviewer rightly pointed out, some things are not achieved by sheer hardwork, sometimes you’ve got to relax and let your personality through.

My exasperation with him gets tempered though when I remember that he’s always had to work hard for everything and this is the only way he knows to approach the things that are important to him. I think this GQ interview is very important to him as he wants to snag the male demographic and that’s why he’s trying so hard.

I find it a bit sad because he hinted that he’s not getting the kind of roles he wants but I doubt swearing like a teenager will make a producer cast him say, in a western movie or make adult men take him seriously. I don’t mind swearing at all but this is not believable.

Hopefully, he’ll read this interview and note the observations made by the interviewer. I bet he can sound so much more grown up without appearing as if he’s trying too hard if he just relaxes and lets his real personality through rather than all these images he’s channeling which are frankly not appealing.

When people meet him and work with him, they speak so well of him, I just don’t get why he thinks these fake personalities will do more to further his career than his real self.

I think this is a critical period for him and he’s clearly confused about how to present himself and desperate to make it work. I’m not really sure his pr is guiding him in the right way. Maybe he needs some quality time with his parents.

I don’t get why Zac is being attacked over this article. Many celebrities reinvent themselves for interviews depending on the publication. Jennifer Aniston is usually seen as the girl-next-door, yet she posed nude for GQ a few months ago. Does that make her a bad person?

Just because Zac is trying to be edgier for select publications like GQ and Interview magazines does not make him a lost soul who is having trouble figuring out where he fits in. These interviews show he is savvy enough to cater to the audiences that these particular publications appeal to. That’s called marketing oneself, which is needed in the cut-throat entertainment business.

Zac is an adult and doesn’t need to go back to mom and dad to regroup. He’s doing just fine and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Besides, actions speak louder than words: He’s been in a committed relationship for nearly four years with the same person and has not been in any trouble with the law. Can’t say the same for some of Zac’s peers in the industry.

Sorry, I doubt anyone who read the WHOLE interview including the way the interviewer described Zac , will call Zac edgy or savvy (please check the dictionary meaning of the words).

He was presented as a young man trying hard to be and say what he thinks he needs to be and say. It wasn’t hinted at in the interview, it was spelt out categorically. You might want to go back and read the whole interview.

Awwww just saw zac on the david letterman show, he looked so gorgeous on the show and was actually really nervous to be there too, you can so tell when he was talking to david it was so cute and funny lol I think he’s very overwelmed with all of his success and is happy about it at all at the same time. everyone needs to give him a break about the whole GQ interview he’s still young and new to the business and I think he has a great career ahead of him, as long as he stays on the right track like he says he will, he will be an even greater actor

I never said you were the one belittling him. I agree with you on a lot of your points regarding the whole thing. I do disagree about how you think he was presented overall and I don’t think this was too different than any other GQ spread. You’re right though, we’ll all have to agree to disagree. JJ seems to have been filled with negativity but beyond this place, there were a lot of positive reactions. This was geared towards adult males and I can’t say I know how it came across to them but if this didn’t do it, he did win over a lot of people in that demographic through SNL at least.

In my opinion this article shows Zac is growing up. As people like Karen & Naoimi have already mentioned. GQ is an ADULT magazine,therefore will be written in a way that appeals to the intended target market which is ADULTS. I understand why some of his younger fans may be a little upset over his cussing but what you have to understand is,zac is now trying to break in to older more serious roles. He is not trying to alienate younger fans, he is growing up. I would hazard a guess that all the interviews that are coming out recently for the promotion of 17 Again are more “Zac” then any of the HSM interviews ever were.

I think its admirable he is growing up, I don’t think it will be the easiest transition to go from being seen as a disney actor after appearing in 3 HSM Movies, to becoming known as a serious actor, he has his work cut out. But I think he is already going the right way with 17 Again,Me & Orson Welles,and now The Death & Life of Charlie St Cloud .

I have the feeling Zac will be around for many years to come, if he continues the way he is going.

I personally got married at age 27 and don’t regret it I was with my boyfriend for 3 years before we got married and this year we have been married for 20 years and actually been together for 24 years in total and we started going out on the same date as my mom and dad’s wedding anniversary the 4th April.

And as I have said before I think the late 20’s is a good time to consider taking that big step if it’s both partys want I always wanted kids but I’m glad that I had mine at the ages that I did and not any younger it’s a big step even my daughter who is 19 this year and has friends who have had kids from the age of 16 has said herself that yea she wants kids but not for ages yet as she can just about look after herself let alone a baby so she wants to wait until she has a secure job and a place of her own then kids might be a option but not until then so I say great thinking why rush into something as important and life changing as marriage and having kids are at a young age if you know yourself that your not ready and your gonna do it just to please other people that’s not how it should be. So I think that both Zac and Vaness have the right idea about it they had a teenage romance and now there into a adult one personally they will change it’s part of growing up and their outlooks will change but I’ve a feeling one thing that won’t change is their bond, love and commitment to each other I may be wrong as I don’t know them personally but it’s just the feeling I get but only time will tell but they have each other and have a understanding of each other that only they know and that’s what will help with the changes they are bth facing and will contiune to face as they grow up.
