Selena Gomez Advice To Actors: Learn To Handle Rejection
Selena Gomez takes a break backstage at the Raise Hope for the Congo event to chat with TVGuide.com and YoungHollywood. Check out what the 17-year-old actress had to say about rejection, her hopes of winning an Oscar and her music:
On the medium she’s really concentrating on at the moment: “I’m really focused on my music [right now]. Lately, I’ve been in the studio, I wrote my first song which will be on my record. I’m really focused on that right now. I can’t wait for my fans to hear it.”
On her long term goals: “I don’t plan, but there are goals that I’d like to achieve. I’d love to have a family one day, I’d love to move back to Texas…I’d love to win an Oscar. Other than that, I live day by day.”
On her advice for aspiring actors: “I always say to listen to your parents. I know that’s cliche and sometimes as a teenager, you don’t want to, but my mom has always given me the best advice ever. Whether it’s about my career or my personal life, she’s always there. Make sure that you’re passionate about it [your craft] and you have to be able to handle rejection. I’ve been told no a lot in this town. Actually, when I was 12, I was told I would never have my own show because I wasn’t any good and three years later (laughs).”

Aw, I love how she usualy mentions her family in her interviews. That’s just so sweet.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, kiddies. You’ve seen her okay, what? 2 characters? Wait until she challenges herself with something completely different than you’ve ever seen than an Oscar will be in the talks. I do think she’s an exceptional actress but seriously, lets not get ahead of ourselves.

God selena i am sooo proud of you just for being a girl who’s been said “no” to…i know how discouraging,hypocritical n sadistic people can be n just for toughening up,staying strong n proving them all wrong…I am PROUD of u!!!..n she was right about the “listening to ur parents”thing..adolescents generally think they know everything about everything when in truth they have very little knowledge about the entirety of something….i went through that phase myself n now when i look back i cant believe how stupid n utterly idiotic i was about most of the things..
I just don’t get why all these Disney stars are singing and stuff now! Atleast she’s trying, but it irritates me so much! No offence on her, but she’s not that great a singer. I don’t mean just her, I mean a lot of them! The only ones who can actually sing are Miley, Demi and the Jonas Brothers, but all the others sing through their nose and blah!

That’s so true. That’s what my mamma says… I love Selena, she’s a great role-model. The only thing I don’t like about her is the fact that she doesn’t dress or wears her hair for her age. She looked so beautiful with her long hair. Not being shallow. I still lover her! But I noticed that Demi and Selena have always the same style. Demi was edgier so was Selena, Demi is sophisticated so is Selena… Weird ah?
