Taylor Swift: AMAs 2009 Artist Of The Year!

Taylor Swift just keeps on grabbing the awards — even when she’s not there to accept them in person!

The 19-year-old musician nabbed FIVE out of six awards that she was nominated for at the 2009 American Music Awards including Artist of the Year, beating out the late Michael Jackson, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga and Eminem.

Taylor also snatched up awards for Adult Contemporary, Pop/Rock Female and Country Female Artist as well as Country Album.

She accepted two of her awards via satellite from London, where she was rehearsing for a show on Monday, and thanked her fans. “I will never be able to say how much I love you,” Taylor shared.

Congrats, T!

well ya know i love mj as much as the next person but he had his time and fair share of awards and the spotlight. its time for new idols and legends. she works hard and u can tell she appreciates everything she is getting right now. i think that ppl should give her a chance to take in this moment bc its life changing.

Really people? Michael Jackson is dead… He was a spectacular artist. But he gets no gain from winning anymore, And Taylor is amazing right now! Yes I think she so deserved everything she got! Michael can’t appriciate it anymore? so why does it matter?

Before Michael Jackson’s death, he was hated by 90% of America for being “weird”. It’s funny how everyone is jumping on his bandwagon now. You guys are PATHETIC. Where was all this love and support for him when he really needed it? I’m proud to be a true fan of MJ, not just after his death like most of these idiots.

Anyway congrats to Taylor Swift and her speech at the end thanking the Jackson family and Janet was very touching and class. Very humble girl, good for her.

@jasmine: so what if he’s dead.he’s done a whole hell of alot better then taylor has.he could perform his ass off.he defined pop music…what has taylor done??wrote a bunch of songs that bash boys.

Congrats to the amazing Ms. Swift! No one deserves it more than her!
But can someone please tell me why Michael was nominated for awards when he didn’t put out ANY NEW MUSIC this year. If he hadn’t died would he have been nominated??

jenna @ 1:15 am on 11/23/2009

if it wasn’t fan voted, she wouldn’t have a shot in hell for those awards. i hope she thanks kanye and that jonas brother every night when she goes to sleep. she’d be no where without them.

i really like her and her music but sometimes she bugs me…like the way she performs (her stiff arms and hand movements) and the way she gets overexcited about winning an award (like she’ll keep her mouth open for a very long time)…i dont know, just little things that bug me. but my like for her is greater than my dislike for her…if that makes sense haha

jlene @ 1:25 am on 11/23/2009

@jenna: That’s a good one and also a true one. This is only based on fan votes even if they aren’t worthy of it and that sucks.

Taylor is no ‘entertainer/artist of the year.’ Neither is Eminem. No idea where they came up with some of these for entries. Dead or not, Michael has done and will continue to do more than Taylor ever will(between his movie, CDs, continuous media coverage, Neverland, etc).

They gave that to Taylor, she did not win it. I don’t consider a guitar player(who does nothing other than that on stage, besides holding a mic…) and a rapper entertainment. Michael is by far a much better entertainer.

Go ahead and hate me for saying all that. I welcome it, but you know it is true.

The award is Artist of the YEAR. It is not like Best Artist of All Time. Michael has not put out any new music or done much this year. Taylor has put out a platinum edition album and has been on tour and actually performing. She deserves Artist of the Year. If it was of all time, then I would understand that it is ridiculous she would beat out Michael Jackson but it isn’t, so get over it.
