Next week is Kay Panabaker’s time to shine with her new flick, Fame, that’s taking over the world.
The 19-year-old actress, who has more credits to her name than most of her peers, caught up with Australia’s Courier Mail newspaper to chat about her role as Jenny, her best friend and sister Danielle and keeping in touch with Zac Efron. Check it:
On why she chose the role in Fame: “When I first read the script, it wasn’t like, ‘Oh it’s a remake, oh it will be huge’, that wasn’t my thought. It was the fact it was such a character-driven film. The (original) was the same way. It was all about the characters and all about their growth, not only throughout high school, which is difficult enough, but then you throw in this performing arts aspect — going into the world and having this craft and this love and this dream and not knowing if you’ll be able to make a living doing it, if you’ll be successful.”
On working and keeping in touch with former Summerland costars Jesse McCartney and Zac Efron: “I do keep in touch with Zac, he’s a sweetheart. Jesse was actually the heartthrob first – when we were still filming he was the big name. I love them both. They’re both such great guys and still so sweet and so grounded. I’m so happy to have known them, especially Zac before all of his fame. Their success is amazing.”
On never seeing big sis Danielle: “Eventually, I’m sure we will go up for the same roles but we have such different personalities and such different styles of acting there is no competition. I’m more upset because she travels and I travel and it’s like, ‘When are we going to see each other?’”
On being a pack-rat: “My apartment’s still a disaster area though. I’ve just accumulated so much stuff. I’m such a hoarder, I keep scripts and props and all these different things. I’m just never home, it’s pathetic how dirty it is.”
Fame hits theaters NEXT WEEKEND, Friday, September 25.
